Hezbollah's Ideology: Collection of Sermons from Hassan Nasrallah

Speeches of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, 1990s

Transcript:

WE WILL NEVER FORSAKE YOU O IMAM HUSSEIN

“If I knew that I would be killed, burnt and my ashes thrown in the air, then resurrected, killed, burnt and my ashes thrown in the air, then all over again, a thousand times, I would never leave you, o Hussein!”

WE ARE A PEOPLE OF DIGNITY AND HONOR

“When the Great Satan (the USA) announces its aggression towards us and its war on us, this is a great honor and pride for us. This is the proof of our integrity. This is the proof of our independence. This is the proof of our dignity. This is the proof of our patriotism. Because the Americans do not wage wars on their agents, proxies and slaves. This is a proof that we are our own masters. That we are free, honorable and proud. This is what we were, what we are and what we will remain. With Imam Hussein and (his sister) Zeynab, peace be upon them.”

WE LONG FOR YOUR REAPPEARANCE O IMAM MAHDI

Believe us, oh Master (Imam Hussein) that we do not betray you. We will not leave your women (without protection). Nor your objectives, nor the religion of your grandfather, nor the dignity of your grandfather. We will not leave the pursuit of reform in the Community of our Prophet. We will not leave the promotion of good and forbidding of evil. We will not be except what you want of us: righteous, obedient worshippers, generous, who love and strive. O Master, we renew our allegiance to you, our allegiance to you heir and grand-grandson, the Mahdi, peace be upon him. We renew our allegiance to this great Imam, and we believe in his existence, protection, mercy and blessings, his attention and care towards us, in guiding us, supporting us, defending us. O brothers and sisters, this Imam towards which we renew our allegiance, we must strengthen our spiritual relationship with him, we must remember him in our prayers, commemorations and celebrations, in the funerals of our martyrs and in our victory rallies, when we are hungry and when we are filled. We must remember him during our nights and during our days. We must focus our hearts and minds towards him with yearning. Our eyes must be filled with desire to see him. And towards him our souls yearn with love, strength, patience and hope. We wait for him to fight and be killed under him. And each and every one of us has the same dream that this Black African in Karbala had, to be killed defending Imam Hussein, and for his Imam to come put his cheek over his before he dies, so that he can say ‘Who is as happy as I am, whilst the Son of the Prophet of God puts his cheek over mine?!’

OUR GREATEST GUIDE IS THE PROPHET OF ISLAM

“This Great Messenger, peace of God upon him and his family, the greatest characteristic he brings forth to us is Guidance. He guided us. He is our guide to the realities of Existence, our guide towards God, so that we know Him, get close to Him. He guides us towards God so that we fear Him and be devout to Him, so that we worship Him, and strive in His Path. The Prophet is our Guide and Introducer to the Day of Judgment. It is through him that God Most High and Exalted gave us some knowledge of the Unseen, of the past and of the future. When we look at our previous civilization, at our former glory, when we look forward to a bright future in which we have great hopes, to bring back our civilization again, to revive it along with our values, existence, dignity, pride and respect as a Community, we know that this will not happen but by returning to Him and following His leadership and guidance.”

THE TRUTHFUL MUST BE PATIENT

“The believers who are righteous and patient, in order for them to protect their honor and what they have achieved, they must confront these difficulties and hardships. However, how do we confront these difficulties and hardships? We cannot confront them without being people of patience and not of those who give up. People who are not overwhelmed by adversity, nor are they frightened by war, nor do they become anxious when attacked, nor are they troubled by (false) accusations, nor are they weakened by sanctions. Because this life and what it holds within it is as Imam Ali (as) said: “It holds less value than the burp of a goat”. Because this life is as the Imam said: ”it is like a day that is coming to its end.” During this life that is finite and ending, we cannot abandon our responsibilities, nor our duties, our struggle, our dignity, our honor, nor our positions of victory. We cannot surrender, submit to humiliation, be fooled or flee from the battlefield. If we did, we would end up in hellfire and we would have lost this life and the next.”

Hassan Nasrallah: Like Syria, Lebanon must shoot down Israeli warplanes

Speech of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on February 16th, 2018, during the commemoration of Hezbollah's martyred leaders (Sheikh Ragheb Harb, Sayyed Abbas Musawi, Hajj Imad Mughniyeh)

[...] Regarding the daily violations of Lebanese airspace (by Israel), is it not the Lebanese State's duty (to face them)? It is not suitable, as I have noticed during the last 2 or 3 weeks, for the Lebanese official statements to speak only (of Israeli violations) on the land and sea. As Lebanese State, do we not have an airspace? We have no airspace? Have we given up our airspace and signed a full surrender of our sovereignty there, our air sovereignty, not to say our Heavenly sovereignty? Well, what about this issue? Our airspace is violated continually, inconsiderately, every day, every hour, and attacks are carried out against Syria and other neighboring countries from our airspace. What should we do about it?

We are not saying that we should... To prevent anyone from saying that the Sayyed [Nasrallah] wants to get Lebanon bogged down in the war in Syria. You see, Syria defends itself. I'll say two words about what happened last week. Syria is capable of defending itself. What happened last week is of course a very great military feat (almost) unprecedented. And in all certainty, what comes after won't be like what came before (the equation has dramatically changed). And with certainty, at the very least, considering the importance of this event in the humblest way, Israel cannot anymore afford to strike without any fear, just like what happened (for its fleet) the day we hit (the Israeli corvette) during July (2006) war. Ever since, Israel is very careful and calculates to the meter where its ships can approach, where they must move away, where they have to go during their whereabouts, etc.

Regarding aircraft movements, with certainty, this will have a major influence on the movements of the Israeli air force. The Israelis themselves recognize this. That is not my point. I will not dwell on the causes of this event, its consequences for the Resistance and the Resistance Axis, for the struggles in the region, etc. No.

In the wake of my initial remarks, I mean that the Syrian leadership, and long ago, ever since they got largely reassured about the internal situation, they made a decision: any Israeli war plane entering Syrian airspace should be (systematically) targeted by anti-aircraft defenses. There is no (need for) discussion. And even if missiles are launched on Syrian territory (from Israel or Lebanon), anti-aircraft defenses must fight back. And this decision has been applied for several months, but what happened last week is that the confrontation was bitter, and that God Almighty and Exalted has strengthened and given success to the (anti-aircraft) retaliation. "When you threw [a handful of sand in the direction of your enemies, O Prophet], it was not you but God who threw." [Quran, 8, 17]

Well, what I mean here after the falsifications we have heard for a week, – because you know that for years, there has been a smear process to belittle all that is Syrian – (falsifications according to which) the cause of the confrontation and escalation that led to shoot down the Israeli aircraft would be an Iranian decision, (or) a Russian decision, but such talk is meaningless. The decision to shoot down aircraft and Israeli missiles in the Syrian sky is a Syrian decision, a decision of the Syrian leadership, a decision of His Eminence President Bashar al-Assad, and nobody else. The allies of Syria (Iran, Russia, Hezbollah) have only been informed of the general decision (to be implemented throughout all Syrian territory). Well, (that is all about) this decision.

As for its implementation, due to the smear campaign launched against the Syrian army, the Arab armies, the Arabs themselves, and so forth, who would have shot down the plane (if we believe these propagandists)? Who aimed and fired the anti-aircraft defenses and shot down the plane? The Iranians! No, the Russians! Then (these falsifications) have weakened, and (it was claimed that) it was Hezbollah. No, my dear. Those who shot down the plane and manned the air defenses in Syria are officers and soldiers of the heroic Syrian Arab Army. And for the past 7 years, we mingled with them more than when they were in Lebanon (1976-2005). When they were in Lebanon, we were not really friends... We mingled more with them, and found among officers and soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army a level of knowledge, know-how, expertise, intelligence, courage and precision that places them at a very high level. Why this smear, why these calumnies in the description of a truth that should make us all proud, whether we agree or disagree with the Syrian regime? All over the Arab and Muslim world, all should be proud of this heroic feat by the Syrian Arab Army and its air defenses after a decision of its (own) leaders. This should be a source of pride. Of course, we congratulate (Syria) and we express our pride and joy because of this intelligence, this feat and this heroic act.

Returning to us (Lebanon): these permanent (Israeli) violations, how long will they last? When (the US Secretary of State Rex) Tillerson came just a few days ago, or rather yesterday, and before him (his deputy David) Satterfield, maybe some (people) – not us, of course, never in our life – expected or assumed that the Americans came to Lebanese officials to say they were with them and standing at their side, and that they'd prevent Israel from putting to fire and sword the security situation in Lebanon, and would not allow Israel to violate our sovereignty, they would give Lebanon its water rights, etc.

But look at the scales of what the Pentagon actually did. How much has he (recently) asked for Israel? I do not know if this has been granted yet or not. They requested assistance – military, because it isthe Pentagon – amounting to 3.3 billion dollars to Israel. I could be wrong about 300 million dollars (3 billion 300 million), so let's just say 3 billion, excluding 300 million in military aid to Israel. As for the Lebanese army, the United States (supposedly) helps, supports and will support it to the amount of how much? 40 million dollars. 50 millions. O my brother, even say 100 millions. 150 million dollars. Who are we laughing at ? The United States gives Israel their most important strategic military aircraft (F-35) and as for Lebanon, it is not that no aircraft are given to us, we do not even get air defenses to defend ourselves and protect our sovereignty.

Anyway, what I'm saying here is that at this stage, regarding Israel, I do not think anyone in Lebanon argues. In 1982, between Hezbollah, the Amal movement, political movements, nationalist and Islamists parties, many voices were raised and debated on the question of whether Israel was an enemy or not, had (territorial) ambitions in Lebanon or not. But now it's over. Today, after what has happened and is still happening (Israel claims for itself oil and gas fields in Lebanese territorial waters), is there anyone among the Lebanese arguing about the reality of Israeli ambitions in Lebanon? No. I do not think anyone calls it into question. Is there anyone who disputes the fact that on the basis of these ambitions, there are Israeli threats against Lebanon? I believe that nobody calls it into question. By God, this has nothing to do with Hezbollah's weapons (denounced by the Lebanese March 14 alliance, opposed to Hezbollah's 8th March Alliance). Instead of addressing the causes, the US claims to remedy the consequences.

Well, to deal with these ambitions and these threats,we have a strong point (Hezbollah's deterrence), and they are trying to deprive Lebanon from it. Anyway, on this issue, in general, we must remain vigilant and attentive. I'm not saying that we are heading into a war as claimed by some media, analysts and declarations. In terms of (the possibility of) war, I repeat what I've said in all my previous speeches: it depends on a great many circumstances. Of course, this does not mean that if Israel says it does not want war, we should necessarily take their word for it. Maybe they want war, maybe they do not want it. The only thing that prevents Israel to go to war is its lack of certainty of winning. And this is the equation we inherited from our martyred leaders (commemorated today). [...]

Ali Khamenei: US regime's barbarity is worse than ISIS'

Speech delivered on February 8, 2018 by Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in a meeting with commanders and personnel of the Air Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.

The meeting was held in Imam Khomeini Hussainiyah on the occasion of the historic pledge of allegiance of Air Force officers to Imam Khomeini on the 19th of Bahman of 1357 [February 8, 1979].

[...] The oppression of arrogance should be clarified. Today, the cruelest and the most oppressive system in the world is the US government. It is more oppressive than everyone else. You witnessed how bad, oppressive and savage ISIS was. The US government is even worse than them. The US government is the same apparatus which created the likes of ISIS – not just ISIS itself. It facilitated the tasks for them. It acted as the cause.

This is not just our claim, rather they themselves have acknowledged this. The person who is the US President in the present time used to constantly highlight the fact, in his electoral campaign, that the creation of ISIS was a measure adopted by the Democrats - the opposite party. He would repeat this over and over again and he was right. There was much evidence and proof for this claim. In the present time too, there is such evidence. It was they who created ISIS. It was they who strengthened it. It was they who offered ISIS their weapons and their financial support and the like. Most probably, it was they who taught certain methods to them.

Those savage American organizations which are dependent on the US administration – such as Blackwater and the like – are carrying out the same tasks as well. They know these methods to perfection. They are experts at these savage acts against humanity. Most probably, it was they who have taught such methods to ISIS. Otherwise, how does such and such a poor creature from the Caucasus know how to torture an individual, how to torture  people by drowning them gradually (waterboarding) and how to burn them little by little? Probably, it was they who taught them these methods.

Despite the fact that the US is the cruelest and most merciless government in the world, it is an advocate of human rights in its propaganda! It is an advocate of the rights of the oppressed, it is an advocate of animal rights! Well, they should be disgraced. These things should be said. These things should be promoted at an international level. Notice what oppression they have committed against Palestine. In the present time, the Palestinians are subject to oppression and cruelty on a daily basis. It is one, two, ten, twenty, seventy years now that this oppression has been continuing and the Americans have been behind it. In the present time, they are behind it as well. Well, this should be explained.

Another example is their oppression against the Yemenis. In the present time, Yemen is being bombarded on a daily basis. The people are being bombarded, various places are being bombarded, markets are being bombarded, the infrastructure of the country is being bombarded. By whom? By the US allies who are approved by the Americans. It is the Americans who provide them with weapons. It is they who help them. They watch the scene delightfully and they do not raise the slightest objection and do not show the slightest frown on their faces. Of course, there are some people among them – for example, writers – who make some objections, but the US administration does not pay any attention to them at all. That is while they go and display some pieces of scrap iron with complete shamelessness and say that these pieces come from the missile given to the Yemeni fighters by Iran!

They make a groundless claim. Yemeni fighters and mujahids are under siege. It is not possible to give them anything. If it was possible, we would give them a hundred missiles – not one! But it is not possible to give them anything. They are oppressed: "Be an enemy of the oppressor and helper of the oppressed" [Imam Ali, Nahj al-Balagha]. If you can help the oppressed, you should do so. We are standing firm. On the issue of the Resistance, the Americans decided to uproot the Resistance in Western Asia [Middle East] and they were confident that they would accomplish this task. We are standing firm and we have said that we would not allow them to do so. Today, it is proven to everyone in the world that they wanted to do so, but that they failed and what we wanted to do so and we succeeded. Everyone in the world has understood this. Injustice should be confronted. This was about foreign injustice, but the same is true of domestic injustice (within Iran) and it is perhaps of higher priority because of a number of reasons. [...]

Hassan Nasrallah to Trump: There is no such thing as 'Islamic' Terror

Speech of Hezbollah Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah, on January 20, 2018

In this extract, Nasrallah also evokes Trump's use of the expression "Shithole countries".

Transcript:

[...] I also want (to raise) another point about this, (that is) the persistent conceit, morgue, arrogance, contempt and racism of the United States through the Trump administration and the statements that we have heard. As for Muslims and Islam, he has spared them no insult during the presidential campaign and after he won the elections. And his insistence on using the term "Islamic terror" is one of the most blatant evidence of his great hostility to Islam.

There is no such thing as "Islamic terror". For example, would it be acceptable on our side, that a Muslim proclaims that the use of atomic weapons in Japan by the United States, in Hiroshima and elsewhere constitutes "Christian terror"? All the killings in the past and up to now by the United States in many parts of the world, because they are Christians, can we say that it is "Christian terror"? We refuse to characterize the US terrorism as "Christian terror". We refuse it (categorically). [In another speech, Hassan Nasrallah said the same thing about Israel, reminding that Hezbollah always denunces "Zionist terror" and not "Jewish Terror"].

This is not excessive zeal to please the Christians. If we said that this was Christian terror, we would be unfair to Christians and the Christian religion. (I do not say that) to please the Christians. But Christians must also reject the term ("Islamic terror"), and I claim that Trump deliberately describes terrorism as "Islamic". He does not say, for example, the "takfiri terror" or "Wahhabi terror", because they are his agents, his allies. He does not say "terrorism x or y", he keeps saying (on purpose) "Islamic terror" to smear Islam, Muslims and the Prophet of Islam, describing them as (inherently) terrorists.

Well, today I say more regarding Muslims: in addition to the insult addressed at 1.4 billion Muslims and hundreds of millions of Christians with the issue of Al-Quds (Jerusalem, recognized capital of Israel), (Trump) starts insulting African countries and Haiti, with the degrading words he used against these peoples ["Shitholes countries"].

This is a continuation of the fatuity and morgue, of the arrogance of the United States, which some consider the (power) that solves problems in the world, that guarantees respect for law, justice and human rights... If the President of this country is a racist, hateful, arrogant man, contemptuous of the human kind, the children of Adam, because of their color, language, religion or geographical region, on whom do these pro-American rely? [...]
