Vladimir Putin Responds to Trump's Nuclear Doctrine and Unveils New Russian Weapons

Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly - March 1, 2018, Moscow

The President of Russia delivered the Address to the Federal Assembly. The ceremony took place at the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall.

Transcript:

Colleagues,

The operation in Syria has proved the increased capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces. In recent years, a great deal has been done to improve the Army and the Navy. The Armed Forces now have 3.7 times more modern weapons. Over 300 new units of equipment were put into service. The strategic missile troops received 80 new intercontinental ballistic missiles, 102 submarine-launched ballistic missiles and three Boreinuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. Twelve missile regiments have received the new Yars intercontinental ballistic missile. The number of long-range high-precision weapons carriers has increased by 12 times, while the number of guided cruise missiles increased by over 30 times. The Army, the Aerospace Forces and the Navy have grown significant stronger as well.

Both Russia and the entire world know the names of our newest planes, submarines, anti-aircraft weapons, as well as land-based, airborne and sea-based guided missile systems. All of them are cutting-edge, high-tech weapons. A solid radar field to warn of a missile attack was created along Russia’s perimeter (it is very important). Huge holes appeared after the USSR disintegrated. All of them were repaired.

A leap forward was made in the development of unmanned aircraft; the National Defence Control Centre was established; and the operational command of the far maritime zone was formed. The number of professional service members has increased by 2.4 times, and the availability of equipment in the Armed Forces grew from 70 percent to 95–100 percent. The years-long queue for permanent housing was eliminated, and the waiting period was cut by 83 percent.

Now, on to the most important defence issue.

I will speak about the newest systems of Russian strategic weapons that we are creating in response to the unilateral withdrawal of the United States of America from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and the practical deployment of their missile defence systems both in the US and beyond their national borders.

I would like to make a short journey into the recent past.

Back in 2000, the US announced its withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. Russia was categorically against this. We saw the Soviet-US ABM Treaty signed in 1972 as the cornerstone of the international security system. Under this treaty, the parties had the right to deploy ballistic missile defence systems only in one of its regions. Russia deployed these systems around Moscow, and the US around its Grand Forks land-based ICBM base.

Together with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, the ABM Treaty not only created an atmosphere of trust but also prevented either party from recklessly using nuclear weapons, which would have endangered humankind, because the limited number of ballistic missile defence systems made the potential aggressor vulnerable to a response strike.

We did our best to dissuade the Americans from withdrawing from the treaty. All in vain. The US pulled out of the treaty in 2002. Even after that we tried to develop constructive dialogue with the Americans. We proposed working together in this area to ease concerns and maintain the atmosphere of trust. At one point, I thought that a compromise was possible, but this was not to be. All our proposals, absolutely all of them, were rejected. And then we said that we would have to improve our modern strike systems to protect our security. In reply, the US said that it is not creating a global BMD system against Russia, which is free to do as it pleases, and that the US will presume that our actions are not spearheaded against the US.

The reasons behind this position are obvious. After the collapse of the USSR, Russia, which was known as the Soviet Union or Soviet Russia abroad, lost 23.8 percent of its national territory, 48.5 percent of its population, 41 of the GDP, 39.4 percent of its industrial potential (nearly half of our potential, I would underscore), as well as 44.6 percent of its military capability due to the division of the Soviet Armed Forces among the former Soviet republics. The military equipment of the Russian army was becoming obsolete, and the Armed Forces were in a sorry state. A civil war was raging in the Caucasus, and US inspectors oversaw the operation of our leading uranium enrichment plants.

For a certain time, the question was not whether we would be able to develop a strategic weapon system – some wondered if our country would even be able to safely store and maintain the nuclear weapons that we inherited after the collapse of the USSR. Russia had outstanding debts, its economy could not function without loans from the IMF and the World Bank; the social sphere was impossible to sustain.

Apparently, our partners got the impression that it was impossible in the foreseeable historical perspective for our country to revive its economy, industry, defence industry and Armed Forces to levels supporting the necessary strategic potential. And if that is the case, there is no point in reckoning with Russia’s opinion, it is necessary to further pursue ultimate unilateral military advantage in order to dictate the terms in every sphere in the future.

Basically, this position, this logic, judging from the realities of that period, is understandable, and we ourselves are to blame. All these years, the entire 15 years since the withdrawal of the United States from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, we have consistently tried to reengage the American side in serious discussions, in reaching agreements in the sphere of strategic stability.

We managed to accomplish some of these goals. In 2010, Russia and the US signed the New START treaty, containing measures for the further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms. However, in light of the plans to build a global anti-ballistic missile system, which are still being carried out today, all agreements signed within the framework of New START are now gradually being devaluated, because while the number of carriers and weapons is being reduced, one of the parties, namely, the US, is permitting constant, uncontrolled growth of the number of anti-ballistic missiles, improving their quality, and creating new missile launching areas. If we do not do something, eventually this will result in the complete devaluation of Russia’s nuclear potential. Meaning that all of our missiles could simply be intercepted.

Despite our numerous protests and pleas, the American machine has been set into motion, the conveyer belt is moving forward. There are new missile defence systems installed in Alaska and California; as a result of NATO’s expansion to the east, two new missile defence areas were created in Western Europe: one has already been created in Romania, while the deployment of the system in Poland is now almost complete. Their range will keep increasing; new launching areas are to be created in Japan and South Korea. The US global missile defence system also includes five cruisers and 30 destroyers, which, as far as we know, have been deployed to regions in close proximity to Russia’s borders. I am not exaggerating in the least; and this work proceeds apace.

So, what have we done, apart from protesting and warning? How will Russia respond to this challenge? This is how.

During all these years since the unilateral US withdrawal from the ABM Treaty, we have been working intensively on advanced equipment and arms, which allowed us to make a breakthrough in developing new models of strategic weapons.

Let me recall that the United States is creating a global missile defence system primarily for countering strategic arms that follow ballistic trajectories. These weapons form the backbone of our nuclear deterrence forces, just as of other members of the nuclear club.

As such, Russia has developed, and works continuously to perfect, highly effective but modestly priced systems to overcome missile defence. They are installed on all of our intercontinental ballistic missile complexes.

In addition, we have embarked on the development of the next generation of missiles. For example, the Defence Ministry and enterprises of the missile and aerospace industry are in the active phase of testing a new missile system with a heavy intercontinental missile. We called it Sarmat.

Sarmat will replace the Voevoda system made in the USSR. Its immense power was universally recognized. Our foreign colleagues even gave it a fairly threatening name.

That said, the capabilities of the Sarmat missile are much higher. Weighing over 200 tonnes, it has a short boost phase, which makes it more difficult to intercept for missile defence systems. The range of the new heavy missile, the number and power of its combat blocs is bigger than Voevoda’s. Sarmat will be equipped with a broad range of powerful nuclear warheads, including hypersonic, and the most modern means of evading missile defence. The high degree of protection of missile launchers and significant energy capabilities the system offers will make it possible to use it in any conditions.

Could you please show the video.

Upcoming video

Voevoda’s range is 11,000 km while Sarmat has practically no range restrictions.

As the video clips show, it can attack targets both via the North and South poles.

Sarmat is a formidable missile and, owing to its characteristics, is untroubled by even the most advanced missile defence systems.

But we did not stop at that. We started to develop new types of strategic arms that do not use ballistic trajectories at all when moving toward a target and, therefore, missile defence systems are useless against them, absolutely pointless.

Allow me to elaborate on these weapons.

Russia’s advanced arms are based on the cutting-edge, unique achievements of our scientists, designers and engineers. One of them is a small-scale heavy-duty nuclear energy unit that can be installed in a missile like our latest X-101 air-launched missile or the American Tomahawk missile – a similar type but with a range dozens of times longer, dozens, basically an unlimited range. It is a low-flying stealth missile carrying a nuclear warhead, with almost an unlimited range, unpredictable trajectory and ability to bypass interception boundaries. It is invincible against all existing and prospective missile defence and counter-air defence systems. I will repeat this several times today.

In late 2017, Russia successfully launched its latest nuclear-powered missile at the Central training ground. During its flight, the nuclear-powered engine reached its design capacity and provided the necessary propulsion.

Now that the missile launch and ground tests were successful, we can begin developing a completely new type of weapon, a strategic nuclear weapons system with a nuclear-powered missile.

Roll the video, please.

You can see how the missile bypasses interceptors. As the range is unlimited, the missile can manoeuvre for as long as necessary.

As you no doubt understand, no other country has developed anything like this. There will be something similar one day but by that time our guys will have come up with something even better.

Now, we all know that the design and development of unmanned weapon systems is another common trend in the world. As concerns Russia, we have developed unmanned submersible vehicles that can move at great depths (I would say extreme depths) intercontinentally, at a speed multiple times higher than the speed of submarines, cutting-edge torpedoes and all kinds of surface vessels, including some of the fastest. It is really fantastic. They are quiet, highly manoeuvrable and have hardly any vulnerabilities for the enemy to exploit. There is simply nothing in the world capable of withstanding them.

Unmanned underwater vehicles can carry either conventional or nuclear warheads, which enables them to engage various targets, including aircraft groups, coastal fortifications and infrastructure.

In December 2017, an innovative nuclear power unit for this unmanned underwater vehicle completed a test cycle that lasted many years. The nuclear power unit is unique for its small size while offering an amazing power-weight ratio. It is a hundred times smaller than the units that power modern submarines, but is still more powerful and can switch into combat mode, that is to say, reach maximum capacity, 200 times faster.

The tests that were conducted enabled us to begin developing a new type of strategic weapon that would carry massive nuclear ordnance.

By the way, we have yet to choose names for these two new strategic weapons, the global-range cruise missile and the unmanned underwater vehicle. We are waiting for suggestions from the Defence Ministry.

Countries with high research potential and advanced technology are known to be actively developing so-called hypersonic weapons. The speed of sound is usually measured in Mach numbers in honour of Austrian scientist Ernst Mach who is known for his research in this field. One Mach is equal to 1,062 kilometres per hour at an altitude of 11 kilometres. The speed of sound is Mach 1, speeds between Mach 1 and Mach 5 is called supersonic, and hypersonic is above Mach 5. Of course, this kind of weapon provides substantial advantages in an armed conflict. Military experts believe that it would be extremely powerful, and that its speed makes it invulnerable to current missile and air defence systems, since interceptor missiles are, simply put, not fast enough. In this regard, it is quite understandable why the leading armies of the world seek to possess such an ideal weapon.

Friends, Russia already has such a weapon.

The most important stage in the development of modern weapons systems was the creation of a high-precision hypersonic aircraft missile system; as you already know for sure, it is the only one of its kind in the world. Its tests have been successfully completed, and, moreover, on December 1 of last year, these systems began their trial service at the airfields of the Southern Military District.

The unique flight characteristics of the high-speed carrier aircraft allow the missile to be delivered to the point of discharge within minutes. The missile flying at a hypersonic speed, 10 times faster than the speed of sound, can also manoeuvre at all phases of its flight trajectory, which also allows it to overcome all existing and, I think, prospective anti-aircraft and anti-missile defence systems, delivering nuclear and conventional warheads in a range of over 2,000 kilometres. We called this system Kinzhal(Dagger).

Video, please.

But this is not all I have to say.

A real technological breakthrough is the development of a strategic missile system with fundamentally new combat equipment – a gliding wing unit, which has also been successfully tested.

I will say once again what we have repeatedly told our American and European partners who are NATO members: we will make the necessary efforts to neutralise the threats posed by the deployment of the US global missile defence system. We mentioned this during talks, and even said it publicly. Back in 2004, after the exercises of the strategic nuclear forces when the system was tested for the first time, I said the following at a meeting with the press (It is embarrassing to quote myself, but it is the right thing to say here):

So, I said: “As other countries increase the number and quality of their arms and military potential, Russia will also need to ensure it has new generation weapons and technology.

In this respect, I am pleased to inform you that successfully completed experiments during these exercises enable us to confirm that in the near future, the Russian Armed Forces, the Strategic Missile Forces, will receive new hypersonic-speed, high-precision new weapons systems that can hit targets at inter-continental distance and can adjust their altitude and course as they travel. This is a very significant statement because no country in the world as of now has such arms in their military arsenal.” End of quote.

Of course, every word has a meaning because we are talking about the possibility of bypassing interception boundaries. Why did we do all this? Why did we talk about it? As you can see, we made no secret of our plans and spoke openly about them, primarily to encourage our partners to hold talks. Let me repeat, this was in 2004. It is actually surprising that despite all the problems with the economy, finances and the defence industry, Russia has remained a major nuclear power. No, nobody really wanted to talk to us about the core of the problem, and nobody wanted to listen to us. So listen now.

Unlike existing types of combat equipment, this system is capable of intercontinental flight at supersonic speeds in excess of Mach 20.

As I said in 2004, in moving to its target, the missile’s gliding cruise bloc engages in intensive manoeuvring – both lateral (by several thousand km) and vertical. This is what makes it absolutely invulnerable to any air or missile defence system. The use of new composite materials has made it possible to enable the gliding cruise bloc to make a long-distance guided flight practically in conditions of plasma formation. It flies to its target like a meteorite, like a ball of fire. The temperature on its surface reaches 1,600–2,000 degrees Celsius but the cruise bloc is reliably guided.

For obvious reasons we cannot show the outer appearance of this system here. This is still very important. I hope everyone understands this. But let me assure you that we have all this and it is working well. Moreover, Russian industrial enterprises have embarked on the development of another new type of strategic weapon. We called it the Avangard.

We are well aware that a number of other countries are developing advanced weapons with new physical properties. We have every reason to believe that we are one step ahead there as well – at any rate, in the most essential areas.

We have achieved significant progress in laser weapons. It is not just a concept or a plan any more. It is not even in the early production stages. Since last year, our troops have been armed with laser weapons.

I do not want to reveal more details. It is not the time yet. But experts will understand that with such weaponry, Russia’s defence capacity has multiplied.

Here is another short video.

Those interested in military equipment are welcome to suggest a name for this new weaponry, this cutting-edge system.

Of course, we will be refining this state-of-the-art technology. Obviously, there is far more in development than I have mentioned today. But this is enough for now.

I want to specifically emphasise that the newly developed strategic arms – in fact, new types of strategic weapons – are not the result of something left over from the Soviet Union. Of course, we relied on some ideas from our ingenious predecessors. But everything I have described today is the result of the last several years, the product of dozens of research organisations, design bureaus and institutes.

Thousands, literally thousands of our experts, outstanding scientists, designers, engineers, passionate and talented workers have been working for years, quietly, humbly, selflessly, with total dedication. There are many young professionals among them. They are our true heroes, along with our military personnel who demonstrated the best qualities of the Russian army in combat. I want to address each of them right now and say that there will absolutely be awards, prizes and honorary titles but, because I have met many of you in person many times, I know you are not after awards. The most important thing is to reliably ensure the security of our country and our people. As President and on behalf of the Russian people, I want to say thank you very much for your hard work and its results. Our country needs them so much.

As I have already said, all future military products are based on remarkable advances that can, should and will be used in high-technology civilian sectors. I would like to stress that only a country with the highest level of fundamental research and education, developed research, technology, industrial infrastructure and human resources can successfully develop unique and complex weapons of this kind. You can see that Russia has all these resources.

We will expand this potential and focus on delivering on the ambitious goals our country has set itself in terms of economic, social and infrastructure development. Effective defence will serve as a guarantee of Russia’s long-term development.

Let me reiterate that each of the armament systems I referred to is uniquely important. Even more importantly, taken together all these advances enable the Defence Ministry and General Staff to develop a comprehensive defence system, in which every piece of new military equipment will be assigned a proper role. On top of strategic weapons that are currently on combat alert and benefit from regular updates, Russia will have a defence capability that would guarantee its security in the long term.

Of course, there are many things that we have to do in terms of military construction, but one thing is already clear: Russia possesses a modern, high-technology army that is quite compact given the size of the territory, centred on the officer corps, who are dedicated to their country and are ready to sacrifice anything for its people. Sooner or later, other armies will also have the technology, the weapons, even the most advanced ones. But this does not worry us, since we already have it and will have even better armaments in the future. What matters is that they will never have people or officers like the Russian pilot Major Roman Filipov.

I hope that everything that was said today would make any potential aggressor think twice, since unfriendly steps against Russia such as deploying missile defences and bringing NATO infrastructure closer to the Russian border become ineffective in military terms and entail unjustified costs, making them useless for those promoting these initiatives.

It was our duty to inform our partners of what I said here today under the international commitments Russia had subscribed to. When the time comes, foreign and defence ministry experts will have many opportunities to discuss all these matters with them, if of course our partners so desire.

For my part, I should note that we have conducted the work to reinforce Russia's defence capability within the current arms control agreements; we are not violating anything. I should specifically say that Russia's growing military strength is not a threat to anyone; we have never had any plans to use this potential for offensive, let alone aggressive goals.

We are not threatening anyone, not going to attack anyone or take away anything from anyone with the threat of weapons. We do not need anything. Just the opposite. I deem it necessary to emphasise (and it is very important) that Russia's growing military power is a solid guarantee of global peace as this power preserves and will preserve strategic parity and the balance of forces in the world, which, as is known, have been and remain a key factor of international security after WWII and up to the present day.

And to those who in the past 15 years have tried to accelerate an arms race and seek unilateral advantage against Russia, have introduced restrictions and sanctions that are illegal from the standpoint of international law aiming to restrain our nation's development, including in the military area, I will say this: everything you have tried to prevent through such a policy has already happened. No one has managed to restrain Russia.

Now we have to be aware of this reality and be sure that everything I have said today is not a bluff ‒ and it is not a bluff, believe me ‒ and to give it a thought and dismiss those who live in the past and are unable to look into the future, to stop rocking the boat we are all in and which is called the Earth.

In this connection, I would like to note the following. We are greatly concerned by certain provisions of the revised nuclear posture review, which expand the opportunities for reducing and reduce the threshold for the use of nuclear arms. Behind closed doors, one may say anything to calm down anyone, but we read what is written. And what is written is that this strategy can be put into action in response to conventional arms attacks and even to a cyber-threat.

I should note that our military doctrine says Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons solely in response to a nuclear attack, or an attack with other weapons of mass destruction against the country or its allies, or an act of aggression against us with the use of conventional weapons that threaten the very existence of the state. This all is very clear and specific.

As such, I see it is my duty to announce the following. Any use of nuclear weapons against Russia or its allies, weapons of short, medium or any range at all, will be considered as a nuclear attack on this country. Retaliation will be immediate, with all the attendant consequences.

There should be no doubt about this whatsoever. There is no need to create more threats to the world. Instead, let us sit down at the negotiating table and devise together a new and relevant system of international security and sustainable development for human civilisation. We have been saying this all along. All these proposals are still valid. Russia is ready for this.

Our policies will never be based on claims to exceptionalism. We protect our interests and respect the interests of other countries. We observe international law and believe in the inviolable central role of the UN. These are the principles and approaches that allow us to build strong, friendly and equal relations with the absolute majority of countries.

Our comprehensive strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China is one example. Russia and India also enjoy a special privileged strategic relationship. Our relations with many other countries in the world are entering a new dynamic stage.

Russia is widely involved in international organisations. With our partners, we are advancing such associations and groups as the CSTO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS. We are promoting a positive agenda at the UN, G20 and APEC. We are interested in normal and constructive cooperation with the United States and the European Union. We hope that common sense will prevail and our partners will opt for honest and equal work together.

Even if our views clash on some issues, we still remain partners because we must work together to respond to the most complex challenges, ensure global security, and build the future world, which is becoming increasingly interconnected, with more and more dynamic integration processes.

Russia and its partners in the Eurasian Economic Union seek to make it a globally competitive integration group. The EAEU’s agenda includes building a common market for electricity, oil, petroleum products and gas, harmonising financial markets, and linking our customs authorities. We will also continue to work on a greater Eurasian partnership.

Colleagues, this is a turning period for the entire world and those who are willing and able to change, those who are taking action and moving forward will take the lead. Russia and its people have expressed this will at every defining moment in our history. In just 30 years, we have undergone changes that took centuries in other countries.

We will continue to confidently chart our own course, just as we always have. We will stick together, as we always have. Our unity is the most durable foundation for future progress. In the coming years, it is our goal to further strengthen this unity so that we are one team that understands that change is necessary and is ready to devote its energy, knowledge, experience and talent to achieving common goals.

Challenges and big goals give special meaning to our lives. We must be bold in our plans and actions, take responsibility and initiative, and grow stronger, which means being of use to our families, children, the whole country; changing the world and our country for the better; and creating the Russia that we all dream about. Only then will the next decade and the entire 21st century undoubtedly be an age of outstanding triumphs for Russia and our shared success. I believe it will be so.

Thank you.

Hassan Nasrallah on the Oil and Gas Wars Raging in the Middle East (2)

Speech of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on February 16th, 2018, during the commemoration of Hezbollah's martyred leaders (Sheikh Ragheb Harb, Sayyed Abbas Musawi, Hajj Imad Mughniyeh)

Transcript:

[...] Third, so far, the Lebanese were and remain united in this battle, the battle of the maritime border and oil rights and... whatever... gas. When I say oil, I mean both oil and gas (hydrocarbons), it's easier that way. United in the preservation of the rights of Lebanon, of its borders, in the refusal to giveu up on them. We must remain united. Because the unity of the official Lebanese position and of the popular position is the most important – and I mean THE most important, and not one of the most important –, this is the most important factor in winning this battle, the one that will enable us to win and achieve our goals there.

It is necessary that the Lebanese officials and political forces do not allow the devils to fool the Lebanese, to sow dissension among them or destroy their common position, and when I say devils, I mean the United States. They are the devils that come whisper us their evil words in this file.

Fourth: we have previously stated, and we were committed since 2000, and this commitment is still valid : the position of the Resistance, is that we do not intervene in the delimitation of the land or sea borders. This is the responsibility of the State. And that's why we informed the officials of our view and position, and we said that we do not interfere (in this delimitation), neither in meters or kilometers, nor in length or width, this is the responsibility of the State.

In 2000, I remind you that I said, on the very evening of the victory, that as a Resistance, we are committed (to liberate or defend) all Lebanese land defined as such by the Lebanese State. It is not us, the Resistance, who determine which territory is Lebanese or not. Of course, Hezbollah has its own vision in this issue, and I do not want to talk about it (now) but this is our position.

Today, while we are in the middle of this battle, we renew (our position) and declare that we are not involved in that dispute. The land border, maritime border and Lebanon's rights should be determined by the State and its institutions. And that means – because this is not an exception, I do not make an exception, it's their responsibility. Even the Resistance, the country's defense is the responsibility of the State. The (Hezbollah) Resistance appeared only in its absence (the Lebanese State couldn't defend itself) and fill that void. It is not an exception, it is the responsibility of the State. But on the field, this responsibility implies that the current leaders of the State and its organs, in this historical, economic, vital and sensitive file for the Lebanese, should be at the required level of trust and reliability, have a lot of courage, and bear that responsibility. And the people of Lebanon now has his eyes on you.

We are all concerned and have a duty to help the State and his position, to support it and stand by his side, in everything it does and everything it asks. But the State also should have a firm stand, a strong and intangible position (on this issue).

Fifth, and this is a very important point. The Lebanese State, alongside the Lebanese people, should behave in this issue from a position of strength. (We must consider that we are the strongest), and not that we are weak. If the Lebanese consider themselves weak, it is a fatal mistake, and our defeat is assured. As we say, the party is over. If, in their innermost, leaders and official Lebanese officials have a sense of fear, weakness or helplessness, the feeling that we are unable to do anything, or that there is huge international pressure on us that we can not resist, or that we have to renounce our rights, our borders, our resources, our sovereignty, this is the first confession of impotence and the path of failure.

I want to tell everyone that we, Lebanon – I do not speak only about the Resistance –, if we are united, with our means and capabilities, we are the strongest. And we need to negotiate from a position of strength. We must follow up this file from a position of strength. And this Israel that is threatening you, you can threaten him. If the US says that you must yield so that they prevent Israel from attacking you, you can argue that it is rather for them to fulfill your requests if they want you to prevent Hezbollah from attacking Israel! [Audience : At your service, O Nasrallah!] Israel knows, the United States know well, those who came (to Lebanon) about the (problem supposedly represented by) Hezbollah, they know, I want to tell the Lebanese that they know (very well) that your only strength, with all the consideration due to the golden equation (Army-People-Resistance) but in this battle, in this battle precisely, the battle for oil and gas, the only force that you have, O Lebanon, is the (Hezbollah) Resistance. Because it is forbidden for the Lebanese army to own ground-ground, surface-to-sea and surface-to-air missiles. This is not because the army is (intrinsically) weak. The Lebanese army, its leaders, its officers, its ranks, the soldiers, have a very high level of courage, dignity and responsibility. But access to these weapons is (formally) prohibited to them. Who is prohibiting the Lebanese army to get these weapons? The United States ! I'll get back to them in a moment.

Therefore, today, Lebanon and all the Lebanese can stand up and say “No, beware! If you prevent us (from our resources), we will prevent you (from yours)! If you bomb us, we will bomb you! If you strike us, we will strike you!” We have the courage, the strength and the capacity for this, and our enemy knows that. Today is no longer the time of (thunderous but vain) Arab speeches, it is not the time of Arab impotence. These are not empty threats. Israel knows it. This is why we hope that the government will act in a position of strength: you are the strongest, and you just have to make the decision (to act from this position).

In this case, we are at your orders. Let us try, by God, let us make the experience! We are the strongest! Let the Lebanese High Defense Council decide that such oil and gas facilities in the Palestinian sea usurped by Israel, the enemy entity, does not have the right to operate, and I promise you that within a few hours, they will not be active (because Hezbollah will strike them). They will cease all activity. [Audience: At your service, O Nasrallah!]

We have to consider that these are our (exclusive) rights. Nobody would be doing us a favor by giving them to us (as they are already ours). Those are our rights and we must seize them, and we are in a strong position and able to get them. That is all for the fifth point.

Sixth, regarding the current intermediary (between Lebanon and Israel). The State may well accept whoever he wants. We will not use our veto. Not even as a political force (via our MPs) or our ministers in the Lebanese government, we will not use our veto. You welcomed the United States, you have accepted them as intermediaries and you negotiate with them, very well. But we must be well aware of one thing: the United States are not an honest broker (neutral or disinterested), especially if the other part of the negotiation is the Israeli entity. And if you want proof, listen to the Palestinian Authority, to the organizations for the liberation of Palestine and to all the Palestinians, who reported openly and publicly, everywhere, that the United States are not an honest broker. After what Trump did with Al-Quds (Jerusalem), is there still room for discussion? The United States are not an honest broker. And you have to behave with the US intermediary on the basis that he is only here to protect Israel (and its interests). In reality, there is not even 3 (interlocutors). Lebanon is negotiating directly with Israel, which is represented by Tillerson, Satterfield or X. This is the reality.

This is why we must not count on (the neutrality or honesty) of this intermediary. The United States do not want the interest of the Lebanese. They only care about Zionist interests. And they want to take the maximum possible of our waters and resources for the benefit of Israel. We must be well aware of this reality and be especially vigilant when negotiating with the United States.

And moreover, O my brothers and sisters, O Lebanese people, you all know what happened this week. No need for confidential insight to know what happened (between the representatives of the United States) and the Lebanese Presidents, leaders and ministers, because the Americans themselves have publicly stated it. The United States do not even come as intermediaries, they do not act as mere intermediaries (between Lebanon and Israel). The United States came only to communicate (their wills), (give) orders and threaten (us): “O Lebanon, if you do not accept this and that – I will not go into details – then you will have no borders, no oil, no water, no (foreign) company will come (help you get your resources)...” Is this the way intermediaries behave? They only came to deliver a message of threats to the Lebanese! “And you have to accept this, otherwise you will suffer this and that...” It is not (the ways) of an intermediary. Anyway... Even the forms of the intermediary, they have not complied with them.

I want to conclude this part of my speech by saying that we are facing a major historical and economic challenge for Lebanon, for its future and its sovereignty, and we Lebanese must all act with unity, consciousness, responsibility, courage, reliability. We must believe in our right and our strength, and not be fooled about our rights, nor yield to intimidation, nor threats, and we will be victorious by God's grace, in all certainty. Unity, endurance and perseverance, sincerity and attachment to the rights undoubtedly bring victory. Of course, these things take time, there are obstacles and difficulties, but things eventually turn out for the best. […]

Hassan Nasrallah on the Oil and Gas Wars Raging in the Middle East (1)

Speech of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on February 16th, 2018, during the commemoration of Hezbollah's martyred leaders (Sheikh Ragheb Harb, Sayyed Abbas Musawi, Hajj Imad Mughniyeh)

Transcript:

[…] First, regarding the battle currently underway, and the challenge that now monopolizes the minds of the Lebanese, (ie the demarcation) of the (Lebanese-Israeli) land and sea border, the (Exclusive) Economic Zone and Lebanon's hydrocarbon deposits, especially in southern waters.

First, it seems that the whole region – I speak about the global perspective, not just the issue of the Lebanese EEZ and Block 9 (claimed) by the Israeli War Minister Lieberman –, it seems that the whole region has entered openly in the heart of the battle for oil and gas. And our case (in Lebanon) is not distinct from this general framework. With this introduction, I want to say that no one should treat this as a separate issue.

Of course, the battle for oil and gas in the region has several well-known causes, that does not need to be explained, namely greed. But at this stage, what gave a strong impetus to this battle is the presence of an administration like Trump's, with this materialistic mentality, their greed and lust openly put forward, without any discomfort. Trump said openly that he is greedy, avid, he is not ashamed of it. The battle opened by Israel against Lebanon's maritime rights, Block 9, etc., that's the first point.

Today, inside occupied Palestine, newspapers, media, Israeli specialists, research centers, everyone speaks of and writes reports and studies about huge amounts of oil and gas in the occupied Syrian Golan. And it must be assumed that because of the vicinity, it is also the case in the Shebaa Farms and Kfar Shuba hills (Lebanese territories occupied by Israel). This is why (the need to perpetuate the  occupation) is not discussed in Israel. And that is why we see Israel trying to build on the Trump presidency and the current US administration, and the weakness of the overall situation in the Arab world and the war in Syria to obtain US or international decision awarding the Golan to the Israeli entity, because now the Golan is not only a matter of national security or huge water resources, but also became part of the battle for oil and gas.

Similarly, apart from the Golan, considering the situation in Syria, there are several reasons why these events happened (for 7 years). But now, if you follow the situation, some Arab and foreign leaders, as well as some great generals, for several months and also in the past year, have published various reports about the fact that Syria has huge oil and gas resources in its territory and waters. And it is therefore one of the reasons of the battle fought in Syria.

The main reason is the issue of the Resistance, the Resistance Axis, the (Syrian) regime resisting American dominance and not submitting to Israel, all these considerations have prevailed, but they said, and now say, and this issue  will take more importance in the future, that one reason is oil and gas in Syria, on the land and at sea.

The US occupation of eastern Syria, Eastern Euphrates after Boukamal, towards the Iraqi border up Hasakah, Qameshle, towards the West to Manbij, there are currently US bases (all over there). The Americans have promised in the past that when ISIS would be eliminated, they would leave the area. ISIS is no more but they have not left. Only a small group of ISIS is left, and they are the ones protecting it. They are the ones that guarantee them full security and prevent anyone to attack them. They prevent the Resistance, they prevent the Syrian Arab Army, they even prevent the Russians (from striking ISIS remains). And the latest confrontation (US strikes against Syrian forces) is due to this.

And moreover, the Pentagon has spent... – when I speak of money, I can't find my words – the Pentagon spent, as we can read, 500 to 750 million dollars in aid to Syrian Democratic Forces and under the claim of protecting the Kurds. We already reached almost 750 million dollars in one year alone, 2018. All this for what? Promoting democracy in Syria? Protecting the Kurds?

It is unfortunate that ... The Kurds should, and I make a parenthesis to give this advice, learn from all previous experiences. Americans use you as instruments in their struggles and battles, whether against the Syrian regime, the Islamic Republic (of Iran), against Russia, against the Resistance Axis, and even for other purposes, and ultimately, the Americans only care about their interests, they give up on you and sell you in the slave market.

Well, why this colossal sum of money? And they say they will stay (in Syria). Even on the basis of Al-Tanf, they will stay. But ISIS is over. ISIS was completely extirpated from the Syrian towns and cities. They remain only close to the base of al-Tanf and East of the Euphrates. Why? Because the most important oil and gas fields in Syria are East of the Euphrates.

The Trump administration now sees Iraq with eyes (greedy) of oil.

With eyes (greedy of) oil. Trump and his administration see Iraq only as oil fields. They do not see them as a people, inhabitants, a State, a regime, a future, a (desire for) safety, a country (just) emerging from a terrible and disastrous war which left very dangerous consequences for its infrastructure, its society and its people, and had to make (considerable) sacrifices. For Trump, Iraq is only oil and oil fields. And he clearly announced it for a whole year during his election campaign, he was only repeating “Oil! Oil! Oil! Oil!”. I remember that word, although I have forgotten my English basics. He kept saying “Oil !”  and “We were wrong, we have to send our forces back (to Iraq), we have to grab the oil fields, we must get the oil.”

This is why the Iraqis have to be very vigilant, (this very) Trump (is now in power). And the man keeps his campaign promises. What he did with the issue of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) is far from being a secondary measure. He insulted and assaulted the dignity of hundreds (of millions)... Two billion Muslims and Christians, to say the least. Two billion Muslims and Christians. We are equally offended. And that is why today, what did the Trump administration say about Iraq? They say they will not repeat the same mistakes as in the past, those of the Obama administration. Their approach towards Iraq is that of oil, (only) oil.

Well, let us add that between Turkey and Cyprus, a dispute began over oil, and in recent months, the Gulf crisis about which it is said, and that may be true, that the real reason is a fight, between some Gulf  countries, to control Qatar's resources in oil and gas, and you know that Qatar has really considerable gas reserves. A battle for oil and gas is underway. And who leads it? For I do not say all this to pass the time. This is our battle today. It is the Americans who run this battle. East of the Euphrates, it is the US who pull the strings. In Iraq, the US have an eye on the situation. In the Gulf, it is the US who lead the dance. And the whole world knows that the problem  between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, between the UAE and Qatar, if Trump wanted to, it would be settled in 2 hours. The whole world knows that. On the Israeli issue, too, the question today is conducted according to the same considerations and the same mentality.

I wanted to start with this introduction to say to all the Lebanese... For we are now facing a battle that we must approach differently. When the Israeli enemy occupied South Lebanon (in 1982), or when he retreated to the border line in 2000, maybe some Lebanese considered that (the liberation of Lebanon) was not their battle. It was (according to them) the battle of the southerners, or inhabitants of the Bekaa, for example. Maybe some people who couldn't have cared less whether (the Southern occupied city of) Bint Jbeil went back to Lebanon or not, whether (adjacent) cities of Marjayoun, Hasbaya, Jezzine, Ayt al Sha`b got (liberated from Israeli occupation) or not. All that is the past. There is no use to reopen old files.

Today, the oil resources present in the South, like other hydrocarbon wealth present in Lebanon, belong to all the Lebanese. It is owned by the Lebanese people. And this money will go into the coffers of the Lebanese State. And the Lebanese people, on whom a huge debt  accumulated, which may have exceeded 80 billion, to which  will be added 16 or 17 billion of debt, to reach 100 billion or more within a few years, Lebanon has no wealth, he has no resources. It may be that our only hope is the oil and gas resources present in our waters and in our sea. And by the way, also present on our land (occupied by Israel), and this file must be opened. Why? We'll talk about it later. But here is what we (Lebanese) already agree upon.

So this wealth belongs to Lebanon, it is a hope for Lebanon, it is the way of (economic) salvation for Lebanon. This is an opportunity that can bring the Lebanese economy and the standard of living of the Lebanese on a promising and different path.

Well, how should we behave in this battle? Is Block 9 the battle of South Lebanon? No ! This is the battle of all Lebanon. Is the battle of the border of the (Exclusive) Economic Zone in the South, next to Occupied Palestine, the battle of South Lebanon? No ! This is the battle of all Lebanon. That's the first point.

Second, we must know that the essential point in the current struggle is not the land border. The resolution of the dispute over the land border is simple. The key point is the sea border of the (Exclusive) Economic Zone , of (territorial) waters. The Americans and others want to grant us our “simple” rights (without high stakes), namely the contentious points on the land border, to take away our “difficult” (strategic) rights in the sea, in the waters and regarding hydrocarbons. And we must also be vigilant on this point.

What is happening now is that Israel is building a (defensive) wall (on its border). As long as it does not build the wall on Lebanese territory, and stands on the territory of Israe... sorry, on (occupied) Palestinian territory, this is part of the occupation (of Palestine) and operations of occupation. Israel builds a wall inside occupied Palestine. This is a different question. So far it has not encroached upon Lebanese lands. This is why it is necessary that the media avoid confusion in these issues. If it is said that the State and the High Defense Council made a decision (to retaliate in case of transgression) and that Israel continues to build the wall, there is no contradiction. Because the wall is still constructed outside Lebanese land. The problem will arise if the wall encroaches on the so-called disputed Lebanese land. The Lebanese State and the High Defense Council received the three Presidents (of the Republic, the Government and the Assembly). They agreed and made the decision that Lebanon would respond (to any transgression). If that day comes, we'll see what happens.

But now, the question is not that of the land border. The question is about the maritime boundary and (territorial) waters. [...]

Hezbollah's Ideology: Collection of Sermons from Hassan Nasrallah

Speeches of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, 1990s

Transcript:

WE WILL NEVER FORSAKE YOU O IMAM HUSSEIN

“If I knew that I would be killed, burnt and my ashes thrown in the air, then resurrected, killed, burnt and my ashes thrown in the air, then all over again, a thousand times, I would never leave you, o Hussein!”

WE ARE A PEOPLE OF DIGNITY AND HONOR

“When the Great Satan (the USA) announces its aggression towards us and its war on us, this is a great honor and pride for us. This is the proof of our integrity. This is the proof of our independence. This is the proof of our dignity. This is the proof of our patriotism. Because the Americans do not wage wars on their agents, proxies and slaves. This is a proof that we are our own masters. That we are free, honorable and proud. This is what we were, what we are and what we will remain. With Imam Hussein and (his sister) Zeynab, peace be upon them.”

WE LONG FOR YOUR REAPPEARANCE O IMAM MAHDI

“Believe us, oh Master (Imam Hussein) that we do not betray you. We will not leave your women (without protection). Nor your objectives, nor the religion of your grandfather, nor the dignity of your grandfather. We will not leave the pursuit of reform in the Community of our Prophet. We will not leave the promotion of good and forbidding of evil. We will not be except what you want of us: righteous, obedient worshippers, generous, who love and strive. O Master, we renew our allegiance to you, our allegiance to you heir and grand-grandson, the Mahdi, peace be upon him. We renew our allegiance to this great Imam, and we believe in his existence, protection, mercy and blessings, his attention and care towards us, in guiding us, supporting us, defending us. O brothers and sisters, this Imam towards which we renew our allegiance, we must strengthen our spiritual relationship with him, we must remember him in our prayers, commemorations and celebrations, in the funerals of our martyrs and in our victory rallies, when we are hungry and when we are filled. We must remember him during our nights and during our days. We must focus our hearts and minds towards him with yearning. Our eyes must be filled with desire to see him. And towards him our souls yearn with love, strength, patience and hope. We wait for him to fight and be killed under him. And each and every one of us has the same dream that this Black African in Karbala had, to be killed defending Imam Hussein, and for his Imam to come put his cheek over his before he dies, so that he can say ‘Who is as happy as I am, whilst the Son of the Prophet of God puts his cheek over mine?!’ ”

OUR GREATEST GUIDE IS THE PROPHET OF ISLAM

“This Great Messenger, peace of God upon him and his family, the greatest characteristic he brings forth to us is Guidance. He guided us. He is our guide to the realities of Existence, our guide towards God, so that we know Him, get close to Him. He guides us towards God so that we fear Him and be devout to Him, so that we worship Him, and strive in His Path. The Prophet is our Guide and Introducer to the Day of Judgment. It is through him that God Most High and Exalted gave us some knowledge of the Unseen, of the past and of the future. When we look at our previous civilization, at our former glory, when we look forward to a bright future in which we have great hopes, to bring back our civilization again, to revive it along with our values, existence, dignity, pride and respect as a Community, we know that this will not happen but by returning to Him and following His leadership and guidance.”

THE TRUTHFUL MUST BE PATIENT

“The believers who are righteous and patient, in order for them to protect their honor and what they have achieved, they must confront these difficulties and hardships. However, how do we confront these difficulties and hardships? We cannot confront them without being people of patience and not of those who give up. People who are not overwhelmed by adversity, nor are they frightened by war, nor do they become anxious when attacked, nor are they troubled by (false) accusations, nor are they weakened by sanctions. Because this life and what it holds within it is as Imam Ali (as) said: “It holds less value than the burp of a goat”. Because this life is as the Imam said: ”it is like a day that is coming to its end.” During this life that is finite and ending, we cannot abandon our responsibilities, nor our duties, our struggle, our dignity, our honor, nor our positions of victory. We cannot surrender, submit to humiliation, be fooled or flee from the battlefield. If we did, we would end up in hellfire and we would have lost this life and the next.”

Hassan Nasrallah: Like Syria, Lebanon must shoot down Israeli warplanes

Speech of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on February 16th, 2018, during the commemoration of Hezbollah's martyred leaders (Sheikh Ragheb Harb, Sayyed Abbas Musawi, Hajj Imad Mughniyeh)

Transcript:

[...] Regarding the daily violations of Lebanese airspace (by Israel), is it not the Lebanese State's duty (to face them)? It is not suitable, as I have noticed during the last 2 or 3 weeks, for the Lebanese official statements to speak only (of Israeli violations) on the land and sea. As Lebanese State, do we not have an airspace? We have no airspace? Have we given up our airspace and signed a full surrender of our sovereignty there, our air sovereignty, not to say our Heavenly sovereignty? Well, what about this issue? Our airspace is violated continually, inconsiderately, every day, every hour, and attacks are carried out against Syria and other neighboring countries from our airspace. What should we do about it?

We are not saying that we should... To prevent anyone from saying that the Sayyed [Nasrallah] wants to get Lebanon bogged down in the war in Syria. You see, Syria defends itself. I'll say two words about what happened last week. Syria is capable of defending itself. What happened last week is of course a very great military feat (almost) unprecedented. And in all certainty, what comes after won't be like what came before (the equation has dramatically changed). And with certainty, at the very least, considering the importance of this event in the humblest way, Israel cannot anymore afford to strike without any fear, just like what happened (for its fleet) the day we hit (the Israeli corvette) during July (2006) war. Ever since, Israel is very careful and calculates to the meter where its ships can approach, where they must move away, where they have to go during their whereabouts, etc.

Regarding aircraft movements, with certainty, this will have a major influence on the movements of the Israeli air force. The Israelis themselves recognize this. That is not my point. I will not dwell on the causes of this event, its consequences for the Resistance and the Resistance Axis, for the struggles in the region, etc. No.

In the wake of my initial remarks, I mean that the Syrian leadership, and long ago, ever since they got largely reassured about the internal situation, they made a decision: any Israeli war plane entering Syrian airspace should be (systematically) targeted by anti-aircraft defenses. There is no (need for) discussion. And even if missiles are launched on Syrian territory (from Israel or Lebanon), anti-aircraft defenses must fight back. And this decision has been applied for several months, but what happened last week is that the confrontation was bitter, and that God Almighty and Exalted has strengthened and given success to the (anti-aircraft) retaliation. "When you threw [a handful of sand in the direction of your enemies, O Prophet], it was not you but God who threw." [Quran, 8, 17]

Well, what I mean here after the falsifications we have heard for a week, – because you know that for years, there has been a smear process to belittle all that is Syrian – (falsifications according to which) the cause of the confrontation and escalation that led to shoot down the Israeli aircraft would be an Iranian decision, (or) a Russian decision, but such talk is meaningless. The decision to shoot down aircraft and Israeli missiles in the Syrian sky is a Syrian decision, a decision of the Syrian leadership, a decision of His Eminence President Bashar al-Assad, and nobody else. The allies of Syria (Iran, Russia, Hezbollah) have only been informed of the general decision (to be implemented throughout all Syrian territory). Well, (that is all about) this decision.

As for its implementation, due to the smear campaign launched against the Syrian army, the Arab armies, the Arabs themselves, and so forth, who would have shot down the plane (if we believe these propagandists)? Who aimed and fired the anti-aircraft defenses and shot down the plane? The Iranians! No, the Russians! Then (these falsifications) have weakened, and (it was claimed that) it was Hezbollah. No, my dear. Those who shot down the plane and manned the air defenses in Syria are officers and soldiers of the heroic Syrian Arab Army. And for the past 7 years, we mingled with them more than when they were in Lebanon (1976-2005). When they were in Lebanon, we were not really friends... We mingled more with them, and found among officers and soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army a level of knowledge, know-how, expertise, intelligence, courage and precision that places them at a very high level. Why this smear, why these calumnies in the description of a truth that should make us all proud, whether we agree or disagree with the Syrian regime? All over the Arab and Muslim world, all should be proud of this heroic feat by the Syrian Arab Army and its air defenses after a decision of its (own) leaders. This should be a source of pride. Of course, we congratulate (Syria) and we express our pride and joy because of this intelligence, this feat and this heroic act.

Returning to us (Lebanon): these permanent (Israeli) violations, how long will they last? When (the US Secretary of State Rex) Tillerson came just a few days ago, or rather yesterday, and before him (his deputy David) Satterfield, maybe some (people) – not us, of course, never in our life – expected or assumed that the Americans came to Lebanese officials to say they were with them and standing at their side, and that they'd prevent Israel from putting to fire and sword the security situation in Lebanon, and would not allow Israel to violate our sovereignty, they would give Lebanon its water rights, etc.

But look at the scales of what the Pentagon actually did. How much has he (recently) asked for Israel? I do not know if this has been granted yet or not. They requested assistance – military, because it isthe Pentagon – amounting to 3.3 billion dollars to Israel. I could be wrong about 300 million dollars (3 billion 300 million), so let's just say 3 billion, excluding 300 million in military aid to Israel. As for the Lebanese army, the United States (supposedly) helps, supports and will support it to the amount of how much? 40 million dollars. 50 millions. O my brother, even say 100 millions. 150 million dollars. Who are we laughing at ? The United States gives Israel their most important strategic military aircraft (F-35) and as for Lebanon, it is not that no aircraft are given to us, we do not even get air defenses to defend ourselves and protect our sovereignty.

Anyway, what I'm saying here is that at this stage, regarding Israel, I do not think anyone in Lebanon argues. In 1982, between Hezbollah, the Amal movement, political movements, nationalist and Islamists parties, many voices were raised and debated on the question of whether Israel was an enemy or not, had (territorial) ambitions in Lebanon or not. But now it's over. Today, after what has happened and is still happening (Israel claims for itself oil and gas fields in Lebanese territorial waters), is there anyone among the Lebanese arguing about the reality of Israeli ambitions in Lebanon? No. I do not think anyone calls it into question. Is there anyone who disputes the fact that on the basis of these ambitions, there are Israeli threats against Lebanon? I believe that nobody calls it into question. By God, this has nothing to do with Hezbollah's weapons (denounced by the Lebanese March 14 alliance, opposed to Hezbollah's 8th March Alliance). Instead of addressing the causes, the US claims to remedy the consequences.

Well, to deal with these ambitions and these threats,we have a strong point (Hezbollah's deterrence), and they are trying to deprive Lebanon from it. Anyway, on this issue, in general, we must remain vigilant and attentive. I'm not saying that we are heading into a war as claimed by some media, analysts and declarations. In terms of (the possibility of) war, I repeat what I've said in all my previous speeches: it depends on a great many circumstances. Of course, this does not mean that if Israel says it does not want war, we should necessarily take their word for it. Maybe they want war, maybe they do not want it. The only thing that prevents Israel to go to war is its lack of certainty of winning. And this is the equation we inherited from our martyred leaders (commemorated today). [...]

Ali Khamenei: US regime's barbarity is worse than ISIS'

Speech delivered on February 8, 2018 by Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in a meeting with commanders and personnel of the Air Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.

The meeting was held in Imam Khomeini Hussainiyah on the occasion of the historic pledge of allegiance of Air Force officers to Imam Khomeini on the 19th of Bahman of 1357 [February 8, 1979].

Transcript:

[...] The oppression of arrogance should be clarified. Today, the cruelest and the most oppressive system in the world is the US government. It is more oppressive than everyone else. You witnessed how bad, oppressive and savage ISIS was. The US government is even worse than them. The US government is the same apparatus which created the likes of ISIS – not just ISIS itself. It facilitated the tasks for them. It acted as the cause.

This is not just our claim, rather they themselves have acknowledged this. The person who is the US President in the present time used to constantly highlight the fact, in his electoral campaign, that the creation of ISIS was a measure adopted by the Democrats - the opposite party. He would repeat this over and over again and he was right. There was much evidence and proof for this claim. In the present time too, there is such evidence. It was they who created ISIS. It was they who strengthened it. It was they who offered ISIS their weapons and their financial support and the like. Most probably, it was they who taught certain methods to them.

Those savage American organizations which are dependent on the US administration – such as Blackwater and the like – are carrying out the same tasks as well. They know these methods to perfection. They are experts at these savage acts against humanity. Most probably, it was they who have taught such methods to ISIS. Otherwise, how does such and such a poor creature from the Caucasus know how to torture an individual, how to torture  people by drowning them gradually (waterboarding) and how to burn them little by little? Probably, it was they who taught them these methods.

Despite the fact that the US is the cruelest and most merciless government in the world, it is an advocate of human rights in its propaganda! It is an advocate of the rights of the oppressed, it is an advocate of animal rights! Well, they should be disgraced. These things should be said. These things should be promoted at an international level. Notice what oppression they have committed against Palestine. In the present time, the Palestinians are subject to oppression and cruelty on a daily basis. It is one, two, ten, twenty, seventy years now that this oppression has been continuing and the Americans have been behind it. In the present time, they are behind it as well. Well, this should be explained.

Another example is their oppression against the Yemenis. In the present time, Yemen is being bombarded on a daily basis. The people are being bombarded, various places are being bombarded, markets are being bombarded, the infrastructure of the country is being bombarded. By whom? By the US allies who are approved by the Americans. It is the Americans who provide them with weapons. It is they who help them. They watch the scene delightfully and they do not raise the slightest objection and do not show the slightest frown on their faces. Of course, there are some people among them – for example, writers – who make some objections, but the US administration does not pay any attention to them at all. That is while they go and display some pieces of scrap iron with complete shamelessness and say that these pieces come from the missile given to the Yemeni fighters by Iran!

They make a groundless claim. Yemeni fighters and mujahids are under siege. It is not possible to give them anything. If it was possible, we would give them a hundred missiles – not one! But it is not possible to give them anything. They are oppressed: "Be an enemy of the oppressor and helper of the oppressed" [Imam Ali, Nahj al-Balagha]. If you can help the oppressed, you should do so. We are standing firm. On the issue of the Resistance, the Americans decided to uproot the Resistance in Western Asia [Middle East] and they were confident that they would accomplish this task. We are standing firm and we have said that we would not allow them to do so. Today, it is proven to everyone in the world that they wanted to do so, but that they failed and what we wanted to do so and we succeeded. Everyone in the world has understood this. Injustice should be confronted. This was about foreign injustice, but the same is true of domestic injustice (within Iran) and it is perhaps of higher priority because of a number of reasons. [...]

[...] I also want (to raise) another point about this, (that is) the persistent conceit, morgue, arrogance, contempt and racism of the United States through the Trump administration and the statements that we have heard. As for Muslims and Islam, he has spared them no insult during the presidential campaign and after he won the elections. And his insistence on using the term "Islamic terror" is one of the most blatant evidence of his great hostility to Islam.

There is no such thing as "Islamic terror". For example, would it be acceptable on our side, that a Muslim proclaims that the use of atomic weapons in Japan by the United States, in Hiroshima and elsewhere constitutes "Christian terror"? All the killings in the past and up to now by the United States in many parts of the world, because they are Christians, can we say that it is "Christian terror"? We refuse to characterize the US terrorism as "Christian terror". We refuse it (categorically). [In another speech, Hassan Nasrallah said the same thing about Israel, reminding that Hezbollah always denunces "Zionist terror" and not "Jewish Terror"].

This is not excessive zeal to please the Christians. If we said that this was Christian terror, we would be unfair to Christians and the Christian religion. (I do not say that) to please the Christians. But Christians must also reject the term ("Islamic terror"), and I claim that Trump deliberately describes terrorism as "Islamic". He does not say, for example, the "takfiri terror" or "Wahhabi terror", because they are his agents, his allies. He does not say "terrorism x or y", he keeps saying (on purpose) "Islamic terror" to smear Islam, Muslims and the Prophet of Islam, describing them as (inherently) terrorists.

Well, today I say more regarding Muslims: in addition to the insult addressed at 1.4 billion Muslims and hundreds of millions of Christians with the issue of Al-Quds (Jerusalem, recognized capital of Israel), (Trump) starts insulting African countries and Haiti, with the degrading words he used against these peoples ["Shitholes countries"].

This is a continuation of the fatuity and morgue, of the arrogance of the United States, which some consider the (power) that solves problems in the world, that guarantees respect for law, justice and human rights... If the President of this country is a racist, hateful, arrogant man, contemptuous of the human kind, the children of Adam, because of their color, language, religion or geographical region, on whom do these pro-American rely?
